Storm Arwen – aftermath!

The small wood above the North East end of the Loch before northerly storm force winds of up to a hundred miles an hour were recorded in the North East of Scotland through the night of Friday 26th November ……….
… vitually destroyed, just perimeter trees left standing!

Autumn Tidy-up.

The resident frog in the pond objected to the disturbance….
…. and cleaning out the nest-box revealed the sad sight that the possible second brood of Blue Tits failed…
… leaving nine eggs which didn’t mature!

Seasonal.

The trees to the north of the Loch have adopted their autumn colours.………
…….whereas unseasonally one bush in the Whins (Gorse) and Broom hillside at the side of the Loch has decided it is Spring!

Late Insects.

Even with the weather getting cooler there are still a few Damselflies around the Loch.
A sunny period yesterday brought out a Red Admiral butterfly in the garden!

Autumn indicators.

The earlier than usual arrival of Whooper Swans from the ‘north’.
Some twenty plus Whooper Swans arrived yesterday and although a few might stay, most will travel on south after a rest.
